As a Green Specialist you will become a specialist in the Green Energy field. Become a Green Specialist and learn ways to help conserve, reduce, reuse, recycle, and thus minimize our impact on the planet.

Alternative energy is any form of energy that does not come from fossil fuels. A large portion of our current energy needs are met with fossil fuels.  Alternative types of energy are being developed and refined in the hopes that they will be replacements for fossil fuels in the future. As businesses start to realize the environmental impact of using alternative energy as well as the economic benefits that switching to these natural resources provides, the demand for professionals knowledgeable in this field is sure to grow!

Alternative Energy Specialist

Become an Alternative Energy Specialist and learn ways to help conserve, reduce, reuse, recycle, and thus minimize our impact on the planet. Through this “entry-level” green course you will learn that even small changes make a difference and that going green is good for our health, the planet, and even our budgets. In this Alternative Energy Specialist course, we will examine the history of sustainability practices and challenges we currently face. You’ll be introduced to the underlying components, installation, and implementation of solar energy, wind energy, photovoltaic systems, and geothermal systems. 

Prerequisite(s): None

Renewable Energy Specialist

This Renewable Energy Specialist course addresses the main characteristics of the emerging generation of technologies which will be employed to provide energy for the power grid over the next 20 years. This course covers solar energy in its various forms, such as photovoltaic, thermal and thermodynamic energy conversion, taking into account the various issues associated with the connection of these solar plants to the grid. We will also cover wind technologies, wave power and geothermal energies. This Renewable Energy Specialist course is a must for anyone interested in moving into the field of green energy. 

Prerequisite(s): Solid knowledge of math and sciences

LEED Green Associate Exam Preparation

This Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Associate exam prep course provides a solid background in green building principles and practices in preparation for the LEED Green Associate credentialing exam. Information on exam policies and procedures, tips for effective studying, and an overview of the LEED credentialing process is also discussed. The LEED Green Associate credential demonstrates basic knowledge of green design, construction, and operations and is used to enhance any number of careers. Students will learn strategies for securing sustainable sites and building materials, forming efficient water and energy systems, combining utility, comfort and quality, reducing waste, and creating innovative designs.

Alternative Energy Specialist

After completing this course, you should be able to:

  • Recall ways to implement sustainability
  • Identify basic solutions for climate change issues, water distribution and consumption, ecosystems, and pollution
  • List sustainability practices in relation to food, products, waste, and recycling
  • Recognize how to install and operate photovoltaic, solar and wind energy, and geothermal systems
  • Recall the fundamentals of biomass products and fuel cell composition

After completing this course, you should be able to:

  • Define the core elements of photovoltaic systems and solar energy
  • Identify features of wind system energy and technologies
  • Recognize energy systems based on water and geothermal production

Upon successful completion of the LEED Green Associate course, students will be prepared to sit for the U.S. Green Building Council - LEED Green Associate Certification exam to become a Certified LEED Green Associate.
